Dealing with a PAYE inspection

First of all an inspection doesn’t imply there is anything wrong – it may just be a random one. Either way your records and compliance must be impeccable.

If you qualify, apply for P11D dispensation of the need to keep records for P11D purposes of expenses paid on receipt of vouchers.

Benefits

• P11D records should be VAT inclusive

Cars and business mileage

• A favourite to inspect.
• Keep full records for all vehicles include evidence of business mileage
• Fuel scale benefits records should be kept

All categories

• Sloppy records of any expense, however genuine, or benefit could lead to NIC problems

Keep all records for six years and remember that penalties, many of the them automatic, could well result if inadequacies are found.
